Consumer-to-consumer rental marketplaces sound great in theory—but are hard to build in practice.

Why?

• You need supply that’s high-value enough to rent
• You need consumers willing to handle inspection and refurbishment
• Logistics are tricky for anything that can’t be easily shipped
• Locality matters—most rentals need to happen nearby

That’s why most C2C rental models end up turning into local hobby communities or evolve toward a “share” mindset rather than a business.

Some exceptions exist—like formal wear (e.g. wedding dresses)—but most successful models come from B2C or professionalized supply.
